In traditional French classrooms, students often struggle to move from textbook knowledge to real communication ability. Without an authentic language environment, learners may know vocabulary and grammar but still feel unprepared for real conversations in France.
Multimedia videos and listening materials can help, but they cannot fully recreate the pressure, context, and interaction of daily life abroad. For students preparing to study in France, the ability to practice immigration, campus, banking, medical, shopping, and social scenarios before departure is highly valuable.
Beihang's Sino-French education context needed a tool to help students prepare for study-abroad life before departure, rehearse practical communication, and build cross-cultural confidence in a structured classroom environment.
Key Needs
- Authentic French-speaking practice scenarios
- Real-time spoken interaction
- Study-abroad life simulation before departure
- Low-pressure speaking practice
- Teacher-side visibility and learning assessment
- Better connection between classroom learning and real-life communication

Three systems for immersive French learning.
Pimax supported the project with a VR French classroom solution built around three integrated systems: a VR French teaching system, a VR classroom integration system, and a voice classroom integration system. Together, these systems create a language learning environment where students can interact with virtual characters, practice speaking, receive feedback, and participate in role-play activities inside realistic French scenarios.
VR French Teaching System
The system is built around the study-abroad journey in France, covering more than 20 typical scenarios such as airport arrival, university registration, banking, shopping, hospital visits, housing, and social communication. Students can enter immersive scenes and communicate with AI-driven virtual characters such as customs officers, professors, landlords, classmates, and service staff.
VR Classroom Integration
Based on Pimax high-performance VR headsets and classroom-level spatial deployment, the system supports multi-student participation in the same virtual learning environment. Teachers can monitor student views, interaction paths, and participation data through a central platform, enabling guided instruction, feedback, and classroom management.
Voice Classroom Integration
The system integrates speech recognition and pronunciation evaluation, helping analyze pronunciation accuracy, fluency, intonation, and spoken expression. Students can receive feedback, repeat weak areas, and improve oral communication through guided practice.

From classroom French to real-world scenarios.
The VR classroom allows students to practice French in practical contexts that are difficult to reproduce in a traditional classroom.
Airport Arrival
Practice customs dialogue, identity checks, luggage questions, and first-arrival communication.
University Registration
Simulate campus enrollment, document submission, academic introduction, and professor interaction.
Banking
Practice opening an account, asking about services, confirming information, and handling daily financial communication.
Shopping
Use French in supermarkets, stores, payment situations, and daily consumer scenarios.
Hospital Visit
Practice describing symptoms, asking for help, understanding basic instructions, and communicating in medical contexts.
Social Communication
Support role-play with classmates, landlords, teachers, and local residents to build real conversational confidence.
Why VR makes language learning more practical.
Immersive Context
Students do not just hear or read French. They enter a simulated French-speaking environment and respond in context.
Low-Pressure Practice
Learners can repeat conversations, make mistakes safely, and build confidence without the stress of real-world embarrassment.
Speech Feedback
Speech recognition and evaluation help students understand pronunciation, fluency, and expression weaknesses.
Teacher Visibility
Teachers can observe student behavior, interaction paths, and learning data to provide more targeted guidance.
Reusable Course Content
Virtual scenarios can be reused, updated, and expanded for different language levels, majors, and teaching goals.
"Pimax's VR education and training solution has greatly improved our teaching quality. Students can practice repeatedly in a virtual environment without being limited by time and space. Real language scenarios that previously could only be experienced after going abroad can now be practiced in the classroom. This immersive learning format has significantly increased student engagement, and their spoken French performance has improved noticeably."
