The University of Nottingham Ningbo China was established in 2004 as the first Sino-foreign university in China approved by the Ministry of Education with independent legal-person status and an independent campus. It offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, with nearly 10,000 registered students and faculty from more than 70 countries and regions.
The university has received QS Stars five-star certification and is among the first Sino-foreign universities with a national postdoctoral research station. Seven of its disciplines were listed in the 2024 ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, six disciplines entered the ESI global top 1%, and 54 scholars were selected among the world's top 2% scientists.

The Digital Future Lab was designed to support teaching and research needs across virtual reality, data collection, 3D modeling, and immersive visualization. The project required a complete software and hardware environment that could serve both practical classroom use and deeper research scenarios.
